Another of the firearms I decided to acquire in the looming shadow of an Obama Presidency. I had built up an AR-15 pistol a few years ago, and it was a lot of fun, but I eventually cannibalized it, and sold off the parts as it wasn't exactly "The One" I wanted.
Eventually I got around to thinking about a replacement, and decided to go with a 10" barrel, instead of the 7.5" I had previously had. There are some significant ballistic differences between 7.5", 10", and 11.5", and I thought the 10" comprised the best balance of cartridge performance, and ergonomic compactness.
I picked up a Mega Machine lower receiver (paper-worked as a pistol), screwed on a Model1Sales pistol buffer, dropped in an Olympic Arms lower part kit, clapped a 10" pistol barrel into an old Colt upper I had and Viola! I had another AR-15 pistol!
I wasn't satisfied, as this was only a temporary configuration. I quickly ordered a flattop upper, and a quad rail handguard. When they arrived, I also bolted on a Yankee Hill Mfg. folding front sight base I had lying around, and added an Aimpoint ML2 red-dot sight.
Things were shaping up, but it wasn't until I screwed on the Streamlite TLR-2 laser/light combo that it really all came together.
I was thinking about adding a folding BUIS rear sight, but I have concluded that using the Aimpoint as a ghost ring sight works pretty good when the front sight is up. I am not intending on indexing targets at 500 meters with this weapon, but defending my bedroom from intruding Taliban insurgents, so at that range, it works fine.
